The smelter was a smelter who worked as an accounting officer at a smelter. A good knowledge of mathematics and a sound knowledge of metallurgy , in particular the art of tasting, were required to work as a hut clerk .

tasks

The smelter had to make sure that the smelter was always supplied with the materials that were needed for smelting. He also had the task of buying the smelters' toughness. He had to supervise the smelting of ore and ensure that a correctly weighed mixture of ore and coal and aggregates was used. He was also responsible for ensuring that the respective metals were weighed accordingly after they had been melted. In his function as accounting officer, he had to account for the shifts of the smelter. He was also responsible for billing the smelter costs and billing with the trades . Ultimately, he also had to ensure that the tithe was paid for the sovereign.
