H cable

An H cable , also called Höchstädter cable , is a special high-voltage cable with three conductors for three-phase alternating current . It was developed by Martin Höchstädter at the beginning of the 20th century. These cables are used in high-voltage technology for the purpose of electrical energy distribution .

With this variant of three-core cable, each conductor also has a metallized shield on the insulation . This insulation achieves a radial and uniform alignment of the electrical field . In this way, a higher operating voltage can be achieved for H-cables , since the insulation is less stressed than with normal three-wire cables from the low-voltage area without shielding.
