H2 (Paralympics)

H2 is a starting class for athletes in Paralympic para cycling for athletes in the partial sports of track cycling and road cycling . The division into classes indicates the degree of functional disability of an athlete that is relevant to competition . The membership of athletes in the starting class is outlined as follows:

“Class H2 cyclists have to start lying down on a handbike. One of the following minimum criteria must also be met:

  • complete paraplegia in the area of ​​the cervical spine (C7 / C8) or above - or
  • complete loss of leg and trunk functions - or
  • severe ataxia, athetosis, muscle hypertension with unrestricted elbow function - or
  • Symptoms of paralysis in all four limbs with mild to moderate spasticity in all four limbs.

The following applies:

  • the athlete must lie on the handbike and only use his arms to propel the handbike. "
