from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

H3 is a starting class for athletes in Paralympic para cycling for athletes in the partial sports of track cycling and road cycling . The division into classes indicates the degree of functional disability of an athlete that is relevant to competition . The membership of athletes in the starting class is outlined as follows:

“The starting class H3 is subdivided into the sub-starting classes H3.1 and H3.2 for the purpose of factoring.

Class H3.1 cyclists have to start lying down on a handbike. One of the following minimum criteria must also be met:

  • complete paraplegia in the thoracic spine (Th1-Th3) - or
  • no or hardly any leg function and very little trunk stability.

Class H3.2 cyclists have to start lying down on a handbike. One of the following minimum criteria must also be met:

  • complete paraplegia in the thoracic spine (Th4-Th10) - or
  • no or hardly any leg function and limited trunk stability.

The following applies to both sub-start classes H3.1 and H3.2:

  • the athlete must lie on the handbike and essentially uses his arms to propel the handbike. "
