H5P is free and open source software for creating interactive (learning) content for the web. The types of content that are already available include, for example, videos or presentations with embedded quiz tasks of all kinds, timelines or a memory game.
backgrounds
In 2012, the publicly funded organization Norwegian Digital Learning Arena (NDLA) was looking for a replacement for the Adobe Flash- based authoring system in order to create learning content for the web. Supported by the concept of Open Educational Resources , the solution sought should, among other things, rely on open standards such as HTML5 and make it easy to create, share and change content. The Norwegian company Joubel took on the order and published the first version of the software in 2013, which has been continuously developed since then and has been gaining popularity since 2015. In June 2018, the core team announced that they would receive financial support from the Mozilla Foundation as part of the MOSS program .
features
The H5P editor environment requires a host system in which the created content can be created and stored. Corresponding plug-ins for Drupal , WordPress , Neos CMS , Moodle and ILIAS currently exist . You can display interactive H5P content elsewhere via embedding or a runtime environment. Contents can be downloaded and used as a complete package consisting of the media used, program libraries ( JavaScript , CSS ) and the corresponding configuration ( JSON ). Many of the content types support the Tin Can API (xAPI) , which can be used to capture information about learners' experiences.
