HDR projects platin is software for creating high dynamic range images. The software has been developed from scratch by Franzis Verlag for the operating systems Mac OS X (10.6 or higher) and Windows XP / Vista / 7/8 (32- and 64-bit version) in Germany. HDR projects platin is an HDR software in which the user can edit the weighting of the light values of selective image areas for the result of the HDR fusion in addition to the automatic calculation for HDR creation with a brush function . The software offers seven newly developed HDR algorithms, five different tone mapping methods and 45 post-processing effects from digital image processing for a wide variety of photographic motifs.

Versions

HDR projects platin was first presented to photographers and the public at Photokina 2012. HDR projects platin has been available as a box version for specialist retailers and an ESD ( Electronic Software Distribution ) version for internet sales since November 2012 .

HDR projects 3 has been available in the standard and professional version since October 2014 . The HDR and tone mapping algorithms have been revised and expanded for the 64-bit calculation of the image data. A new RAW converter with additional storable camera RAW profiles has been integrated for the raw data format development. A new development is the Smart Colorspace Adaption (SCA) color space calculation , a highly precise mathematical calculation method that recalculates each individual color pixel depending on the neighboring pixels with a 64-bit color depth . This minimizes the banding in the image, color and brightness transitions are depicted more evenly and primary colors more intensely. Also new is the semi-automatic sensor stain and scratch correction and HDR-Paint has been expanded to include 10 adjustable brush shapes.

Technical information

There are basically no restrictions on the image sizes that can be loaded. Only the 32-bit version of Windows is limited to an image size of less than 22 megapixels per exposure series due to the operating system . Exposure series can consist of up to 18 individual images. The currently known camera raw data formats as well as almost every common image file format are supported . All calculation areas support multithreading with up to 32 processor cores. To accelerate the computing processes, the software supports the OpenCL implementation for graphics cards .

Supported language versions

HDR projects is available in German, English and French localization.

Test reports

The photo magazine ColorFoto awarded 79 out of 100 points and made the HDR Project 2 software a best buy in issue 10/2014. ColorFoto rated the “huge range of functions” and “the many options for manual intervention” as positive. The automatic composition and the ghost correction were seen as a "downer". The computer beginners' magazine PCgo awarded 90 out of 100 points and the price / performance rating was very good, but saw "still plenty of potential for improvement in some areas" in the user interface. PC News gave it a very good rating and noted that the software had “very good results in image corrections” as a plus, but criticized the high price.
