The Canberra in missile tests

The Canberra was laid down on March 1, 1978 at Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle , Washington . The launch took place at the end of the same year. The ship was officially put into service on March 21, 1981. The frigate then conducted target practice in the waters around the Pacific Missile Test Center . The ship is named after the Australian capital Canberra .

In 1988 the Canberra took part in the exercise RIMPAC 88 ( Rim of the Pacific Exercise 88 , German about exercises in the peripheral areas of the Pacific ) in the waters around Hawaii . In 1992 the same exercise, again with the participation of the frigate, took place off San Diego .

At the end of 2005, the Canberra was finally decommissioned. Shortly before the end of her service life, the ship carried out an exercise with its American sister ship USS Vandegrift (FFG-48) .
