HMS Boadicea
Several ships of the British Royal Navy were named HMS Boadicea after an outdated spelling of the name of Boudicca , a British queen and military leader who led the Boudicca uprising (60-61 AD) against the Roman Empire .
- The first HMS Boadicea (1797) was a frigate with (nominally) 38 cannons, which was launched in 1797, participated in the Napoleonic Wars and was scrapped in 1858.
- The second HMS Boadicea was a Corvette the Bacchante class with 16 guns, iron hull and propeller drive, which in 1875 was launched, u. a. used to fight the slave trade and sold for scrapping in 1905.
- The third HMS Boadicea was a 3,300 ts light cruiser launched in 1908, participated in the Skagerrak Battle (1916), converted into a mine-layer in 1917 and sold for scrapping in 1926.
- The fourth HMS Boadicea (H65) was a destroyer of the B-Class , which was launched in 1930 and a German air raid on June 13, 1944 near the Isle of Portland was sunk, with 174 crew members died. There were only 12 survivors.
