HMS Janus
HMS Janus is the name of the following British ships, named after Janus , the double- faced Roman god :
- HMS Janus (1778) , a44-gun 5th class ship launched in 1778 and renamed HMS Dromedary later that year. In 1780 it hit the Parasol Rocks near Trinidad and sank.
- HMS Janus (1796) , a 5th class warship with 32 guns. Builtin the Netherlands as Argo , she wascapturedby HMS Phoenix in 1796, used in port service from 1798 and sold in 1811.
- HMS Janus (1844) , a wooden sloop with a paddle wheel , which was launched in 1844 and was sold. 1856
- HMS Janus (1856) , a wooden gunboat the clown class with propeller drive , which ran 1856 stack. Renamed YC 6 in1869and used as a coal barge and sold in 1917.
- HMS Janus (1895) , a destroyer of the Janus-Class , which was launched in 1895 and was sold 1912th
- HMS Janus (F53) , a destroyer of the J-Class , which was launched in 1938 and was sunk 1944th
