HMS Penelope

Nine ships of the British Royal Navy have so far been named HMS Penelope , named after a figure in Greek mythology .

• HMS Penelope (1778) a 6th rank warship with 24 guns entered service in 1778 and captured by its Spanish prisoners in 1780.
• HMS Penelope (1783) , a 5th rank warship with 32 guns, was launched in 1783 and scrapped in 1797.
• HMS Penelope (1798) , a 32-gun warship, scrapped in 1815,
• HMS Penelope (1829) , a 46-gun warship,
• HMS Penelope (1867) , a corvette , converted into a prison ship in 1897 and sold in 1912,
• HMS Penelope (1914) , a light cruiser the Arethusa class (1912)
• HMS Penelope (1918) , a tender ,
• HMS Penelope (97) , a light cruiser of the Arethusa class (1934) , entry into service in 1935, sunk at Anzio in 1944 by torpedoes from U 410th
• HMS Penelope (F127) , a frigate of the Leander class , put into service in 1962, sold in 1991 to Ecuador and Presidente Eloy Alfaro renamed scrapped of 2008.
