HMS Royal Sovereign
(HMS) Royal Sovereign is the name of seven warships of the British Royal Navy to date :
- Sovereign of the Seas was the world's first ship of the line with three full battery decks and 100 cannons. It was launched in 1637, rebuilt several times and renamed the 'Royal Sovereign' in 1660. It burned down to the waterline in 1696, some frames of the wreck were used in the new building of the same name in 1701.
- Royal Sovereign (1701) was a 100-cannon ship of the line that was launched in 1701. After a major repair, which amounted to a new building, it was demolished in 1766.
- HMS Royal Sovereign (1786) was a three-decker that served as Admiral Collingwood's flagship in the Battle of Trafalgar .
- 'HMS Royal Sovereign' was a yacht that was launched in 1804 and scrapped in 1849.
- HMS Royal Sovereign (1857) was launched in 1857 as a screw ship of the line with 131 cannons. 1861–63 it was converted into the Royal Navy's first tower ship , and in 1881 it was finally sold for scrapping.
- HMS Royal Sovereign (1891) was a Royal Sovereign class ship of the line launched in 1891 and scrapped in 1913.
- HMS Royal Sovereign (05) was a battleship of the Revenge class , which was used in both world wars. From 1944 to 1949 it was loaned to the Soviet Union under the name Archangelsk , after which it was immediately scrapped.
