HTMLArea is a web-based WYSIWYG - HTML editor , the further development of which has now been discontinued. He is one of the Romanian programmers Mihai Bazon in JavaScript programmed open source - Rich Text Editor (RTE) with which it is possible in a WYSIWYG interface within a browser content in HTML , are stored format to to edit.

Due to its large number of functions and its multi-browser compatibility, HTMLArea is used by many content management systems , including TYPO3 (up to version 7), Mambo / Joomla! , Midgard and Zope as well as the Wiki Edwiki as input aid for web content. A modified version is available under the name XMLArea for the eZ-Publish-Enterprise-Content-Management-System.

The work on HTMLArea was initially sponsored by interactivetools.com. Extensions such as the table creation function were then supported independently of different users.
