HaJerukim ( Hebrew הירוקים HaYerukim , German: The Greens ) is a green party in Israel . The party was founded in December 1997. Party chairman until 2011 was Peer Visner , long-time deputy mayor of Tel Aviv .

Election results

In the Israeli parliamentary elections in 2006, the Greens won 1.52 percent of the vote and failed to pass the two percent hurdle . This made them the party with the strongest votes that did not enter the Knesset . At the local level, after the local elections in 2008, they are represented by a total of 50 members in 22 cities and towns. Including four in Haifa and three in Tel Aviv. The incumbent Mayor of Haifa, Jona Jahaw , was elected to office in 2003 as a joint candidate for the Greens and Shinui . Jahaw switched to the Kadima party in 2006, however .

In the parliamentary elections in 2009 , 2013 and 2015 , the Greens also failed to get a seat in parliament.
