In an attack in Jerusalem in June 2017 , a border police officer was stabbed and killed four people. The three Palestinian terrorists were shot.

In a coordinated terrorist attack with knives and firearms in the old city of Jerusalem on the evening of June 16, 2017, 23-year-old border police officer Hadas Malka was so badly injured by a Palestinian terrorist that she died shortly afterwards in hospital. At least four other people were only slightly injured due to jammed firearms, including a police officer. The three terrorists were shot dead during their attack. According to the border police, the border police officer Malka fought the attacker for several seconds and tried to pull her weapon. Malka and her colleagues were due to an attack shortly before by two attackers with knives and a gun.

According to the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas, the three 18- to 19-year-old attackers were members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Hamas. For the first time after an attack in Israel, however, the terrorist organization Islamic State also claimed that the attackers had acted on their behalf. Israeli secret services, however, suspect a “local cell of young men who do not belong to any organization” behind the attack. All three were previously involved in terrorist activities. The Palestinian Authority described the killing of the attackers as a "war crime". Between September 2015 and June 2017, 43 Israelis, two American tourists and a British student were murdered in similar attacks.
