Hadi al-Bahra ( Arabic هادي البحرة, DMG Hādī al-Baḥra ; * February 13, 1959 in Damascus , United Arab Republic ) has been the president of the internationally recognized Syrian national coalition for opposition and revolutionary forces in place of the government of Bashar al-Assad since July 9, 2014 . Before his election as president, Hadi al-Bahra served as chief negotiator in the Geneva peace talks aimed at settling the Syrian civil war .

Hadi al-Bahra, who is politically independent and who made his alma mater at Wichita State University , was elected president to succeed Ahmad al- Jarba with 62 votes on July 9, 2014 in Istanbul , thus triumphing over his opponent Mowafaq Nayrabiyeh who received 41 votes.
