The haematoporphyrin test is one of the most accurate tests for detecting blood in stool .
The hematoporphyrin test is not affected by food peroxidases . Since porphyrins are not broken down by gastric acids, false-positive test results can still occur occasionally. Especially in patients with upper gastrointestinal disorders associated with bleeding, such as: B. with duodenal or gastric ulcer , it comes to these false results.
Alternatively, the less precise guaiac test is used.
