The port of Saarlouis / Dillingen (also called Saarhafen Saarlouis / Dillingen ) is a port in the Saarland .
location
The port is located at Saar kilometer 58.8 on the right-hand side of the Saar on the boundaries of the cities of Saarlouis and Dillingen / Saar . It is connected to the international trunk road network via the federal motorway 8 , which runs in the immediate vicinity .
operator
The operator of the port is the state-owned Flug-Hafen-Saarland GmbH , which is responsible for both the operation of the port and that of Saarbrücken Airport .
Infrastructure
The port has a harbor basin with a quay length of 1050 meters. Various cranes and other handling facilities are available in the port. There is also a siding.
Turnover figures
In 2019, around 2.7 million tons were handled in the port.
Operations in the port
The port is primarily used for the transshipment of raw materials delivered by ship from the sea ports for the Dillinger Hütte (iron ore and coal). After the ships have been unloaded, these materials are transported by conveyor belts to the hut located immediately northwest of the port. Some of the products from the hut are also transported via the port.
Other operations in the port are the scrap recycling company Theo Steil GmbH and the lubricant manufacturer Meguin GmbH & Co. KG Mineraloelwerke , which maintains a large tank farm in the port.
