The port manual is a reference work for the seaman and contains all nautically important information about seaports .

The port manual is a supplement to the nautical chart . The nautical chart contains geographical information in graphic form, the port manual contains descriptions in text form, supplemented by sketches, images and photos. It provides information about the control, the berths and protection against wind, about official regulations, customs, supply and repair options. Like the nautical chart and the beacon list , the port manual is part of the compulsory nautical equipment of a ship.

The official port manuals are published in Germany by BSH . There are a total of 9 volumes (Baltic Sea I, Baltic Sea II, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Poland, English Channel and Biscay, Skagerrak and Kattegat, Croatia, British Isles and English Channel, North Sea, Poland). Each country has its own port manuals, mostly for other sea areas in their own language.

The port manuals from the publishers Delius Klasing (Gerd Radlayers), Imray (Rod Heikell) and Edition Maritim are specially optimized for pleasure boaters.

In the age of the electronic nautical chart , port information is mostly integrated into the chart systems.
