Hagenteich
The Hagenteich is an old reservoir near Gernrode in the Harz Mountains in Saxony-Anhalt . The Hagentalbach is dammed in it.
location
The Hagenteich is located south of the old town of Gernröder and is listed as an artificial pond in the local monument register.
history
The pond was first mentioned in a document from 1608. It served as a mill pond for the Hothornmühle built in the same year . It was also used as a fish pond and for cleaning cows and horses. Its function as a mill pond was retained until 1928. In that year the operation of the Hothornmühle was stopped. Until 1926 there was a connection to the Spittelteich via the Hagentalbach , which was then filled.
In 1996, the pond wall collapsed under the weight of a garbage truck that fell into the pond. The pond was emptied and the sea walls renewed. At the same time the capacity of the monk was increased . On May 29, 1997 the Hagenteich was refilled with water from the New Pond . The area around the pond was designed by planting new trees and shrubs and setting up benches. A millstone serves as a table and thus reminds of the original function of the Hagenteich as a mill pond.
