The New Pond near Gernrode in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt is an old reservoir in the Harz Mountains . The Steinbach is dammed in it; the receiving waters are the Bode and the Saale . The pond is drained by the Hagentalbach , which further down feeds the still waters of Mensingteich and Hagenteich near and in Gernrode .
It is registered as an art pond in the local monument register under registration number 094 21198. Above the New Pond are the Bohemian Meadows , in which the Deist waters , which Heinrich Deist created and which are now largely silted up, are located.

Until the first half of the 20th century, the pond was known as the silver pond due to its clean water. It served as a reservoir for the former Alte Grube mine on the Hohe Warte.
Until 1962, the pond was used as a drinking water reservoir for Gernrode. Since then, the place has received its drinking water from the Rappbode dam .
After a heavy rain in 1976, the dam of the pond broke and the water masses flowed into Gernrode, 3.5 km away. After this disaster, the dam was reinforced and equipped with an overflow system. At the dam, the pond reaches its greatest storage depth of 12 m.
Water sports and swimming are prohibited in the pond. A refuge that originally stood on the east bank no longer exists.
