Hagmühle (Hemmingen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hagmühle is a former water mill on the Glems River in Hemmingen . It has been a listed building since 1992 .

The mill was first mentioned as a mill in Nippenburg around 1150 , later the name under Nyppenburg appeared. The mill has been given its current name since the 16th century. Around 1495 the people of Hemmingen were forced to use a mill , that is, the citizens were obliged to have their grain milled exclusively in the Hagmühle, which ensured the miller a constant income. The Duke of Württemberg and Teck acquitted Hagmühle by virtue of a mill letter from 1746. The mill has been owned by the Silber family since 1833.

The 625 m long canal branched off to the left of the Glems originally powered three overshot water wheels . The mill had two grinding stages and one tanning stage. In 1863 two of the old wooden water wheels were replaced by a single larger iron water wheel. In 1905 the mill had two overshot water wheels, each 3.52 m in diameter and 1.37 m and 0.91 m wide. They used a gradient of 4.16 m and delivered a raw power of 11.1 HP at a water flow rate of 200 l / s.

In 1928, Eberhard Silber converted the previous mill building into a residential building and relocated the mill to the outbuilding north of the mill, which was built around 1800. The two water wheels were removed and a Francis turbine was installed. In 1937, an electric motor with 10 hp was added to support water power. The grinding operation was stopped in 1991. The last miller was Eberhard Silber.

The main building with a massive medieval core, which has been used as a residential building since 1928, was extensively renovated in 1996. The interior of the mill from around 1928/29 is largely preserved and functional, as is the mill canal and the weir.

The mill homestead and the cellar house are stations 30 and 31 on the historical tour of Hemmingen.
