Fetch the cock
As pick Hahn (also called "Hahn Get" or rooster slaughter / in Münsterländer Platt : "Hahn halen") is one in Münster and Emsland - particularly in rural or rural area - common wedding custom called, of the gratitude to the neighbors for assistance in Preparation and hosting of the wedding is organized.
The custom traditionally takes place as an "after-party" on the day after the wedding with the bride's parents, with the wedding guests and neighbors taking part and being entertained with drinks and food (originally with those left over from the day before). Traditionally, “fetching the rooster” involves removing the wedding jewelry (the “wreath” - see wreaths ) that was attached in preparation for the wedding .
origin
The day after the wedding, the bride and groom were picked up for a walk. A rooster was brought along, which was sometimes made drunk. When he returned he was butchered and made into soup.
