The Hahnenkammbahn is a cable car originally built in 1929 in Kitzbühel , Tyrol in Austria .

history

In 1924 a commission was given the task of creating a cable car project up to the Hahnenkamm. Construction began in the spring of 1926. The planning and execution of the two station buildings was carried out by Alfons Walde . The Kitzbühel Lift Co. was founded 1928th A year later, the opening of the first Hahnenkamm lift could be celebrated. This was an aerial tramway with 2 cabins for 18 people and had 9 supports.

In 1938 the railway was completely rebuilt by the company Adolf Bleichert & Co. After that there were two gondolas with 48 people each, which led over only 3 supports. The capacity was 320 people / h. In 1958 the capacity was increased to 500 people / h with technical measures. increased, the cabins remained.

In 1996 there was another complete renovation, in which only the station buildings remained. The aerial tramway was replaced by a modern single-cable gondola with 6-seater gondolas. In 2011 a seat heater was installed. One of the old gondolas was hung up as a museum piece at the valley station.

The individual gondolas were named after the winners of the Hahnenkamm race . They also bear the name and flag of the runner's country of origin. Time and again, current winners receive their gondolas as part of a “baptism”.
