Main tower
The Hainturm is a lookout tower built between 1828 and 1830 near the Belvedere Palace near Weimar . It is a listed building .
history
The tower was built on the initiative of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna on the 300 m high Hainberg in the Belveder Forest, which was previously unwooded . He got a height of 13.7 m with a diameter of 5.6 m.
After a fire in 1908, the Hainturmgesellschaft was founded , rebuilt the tower by 1909 and developed it into a popular excursion destination. In 1930 the tower was expanded to include a guest room with a terrace.
In 1946 the Hainturmgesellschaft was banned, from 1953 there was no more management and the tower fell into disrepair. In 1999 the Hainturmgesellschaft Weimar was re-established with the aim of restoring the tower and its surroundings. The Hainturm was then rebuilt with three floors and a viewing platform. It is connected to two neighboring observation towers - the Paulinenturm and the Carolinenturm (near Kiliansroda) - via the 26-kilometer three- tower hiking trail .
