Halaesa is located near the center of the village of Castel di Tusa, a district of the city of Tusa about 170 km west of Messina .
history
The exact year of foundation is 403 BC. The city was probably founded by Archonides , the tyrant of Herbita . According to other sources, the Carthaginians were the founders of the city.
263 BC The city fought on the side of the Romans during the First Punic War . Halaesa was thus the first city in Sicily to fight on the Roman side and, as a reward, was declared a free city by the Romans. The city fell into disrepair since Augustan times.
In the 6th century the Montecassino Abbey received the city's territory. Later there was a bishopric here. A bishop of Halaesa is recorded as a participant in the Lateran Synod in 649.
The lost diocese was re-established by the Holy See in March 2018 as the titular diocese of Halaesa .

The city was built up very regularly. City walls with towers surrounded the city. There were two temples inside.
