The Schöttelheide dump is a mining waste dump in the Grafenwald district of Bottrop, not far from the Haniel dump . It is sometimes also called Halde Haniel-Nord.

Part of the dump is located on the site of the former Fernewald estate. Most of the estate burned down in 1995 and was given up in 1997. The remaining courtyard buildings were demolished in 2000. The land for the landscaping was later leased by RAG from the Ruhr Regional Association to store the overburden from the Prosper-Haniel mine . The heap has an area of approx. 66.7 hectares. By the end of mining at the end of 2018, 32 million tons of rock had been heaped up. So the Schöttelhalde grew to a height of approx. 120 m. Most recently, the amount of spoil was up to 18,000 tons per day. The shale, slate and sandstone rocks often contain fossils of plants from the Carboniferous . When the landscaping was laid down in 1999, future use as a local recreation area was planned. The first backfill began in 2001. As of 2012, paths have been modeled and plantings carried out on the stepped dump. A drainage system picks up the salty wastewater and directs it into the Emscher .

The dump is currently not accessible to visitors as renaturation measures are currently taking place there. The Schöttelheide dump is filled with topsoil and planted with various types of wood, including various types of cherry, walnut, sycamore maple and pine. Animals from the neighboring forest area have also already settled on the site. Later, a path will lead visitors to the plateau.
