Halimede

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Halimede ( ancient Greek Ἁλιμήδη) is a nymph of Greek mythology . As one of the 50 daughters of the sea god Nereus and Doris , she belongs to the Nereids . She is mentioned in the lists of names of the Nereids in the library of Apollodorus and Hesiod .

In the theogony of Hesiod Halimede is mentioned with the addition "richly crowned" (ἐυστέφανός; also "with a splendid wreath"). In the Theoi Project, the name meaning "Lady of the Brine" (roughly "Salt Queen"), probably derived from the ancient Greek word stem ἁλ- (salt, fisherman), is assigned to her.
