Hallingdal Museum is an open-air museum in Nesbyen in Hallingdal in the Norwegian province of Viken . It was founded in 1899 by the agricultural director Gudbrandsdølen Tandberg as Hallingdal Folkemuseum , making it one of the oldest open-air museums in Norway.
The museum is located at the Rukkedøla waterfalls. It has 30 historic buildings and approximately 30,000 artifacts from the region. Particularly noteworthy is a Staveloftet , i. H. a granary from around 1340. It is one of the best preserved secular wooden houses from the Middle Ages. Another rarity is an emigrant house that was built in North Dakota by emigrant Ole Svendsen Skrattegard in 1882 . Other buildings in the outdoor area are a small school from 1871, the outhouse of a former train station and a mill.
Since April 1, 2004, the Hallingdal Museum has been the central administration for the following museums:
