Halton Castle (Northumberland)
Halton Castle is a peel tower north of the village of Corbridge in the English county of Northumberland . Listed by English Heritage as a Grade I Historic Building, the tower is located near Hadrian's Wall .
The tower was first mentioned in a document in 1382 and is still standing today. It has four floors and a cellar with a stone vault. In the 15th century a mansion was added to the north of the tower, giving the entire building a T-shaped floor plan. Around 1696, the owner at the time, John Douglas, had a large part of this building demolished and replaced by the current house with five bays.
In 1757, Halton Castle's heiress, Anne Douglas , married Sir Edward Blackett, 4th Baronet , and the castle became and remained the home of the Blackett family.
