Haltwhistle Castle 1983

Haltwhistle Castle is a ruined castle in the village of Haltwhistle in the south-west of the English county of Northumberland .

It is a ringwork from Norman times (approx. 11th or 12th century) made of earth and wood. The castle was on a hill in the middle of the village and was largely destroyed by later construction work. On the east side there are remains of a large bulwark .

In the 15th century, the Musgrove Tower , a three-story residential tower , was built within the ring mill . In 1963 this structure was demolished again.
