Hamburg Animation Award
The Hamburg Animation Award is an international young talent award for animation design that has been presented since 2003 on the initiative of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and the animation-school-hamburg.
criteria
Animated films of all techniques ( 2D , 3D , stop motion , puppet animation , etc.) up to a maximum length of 10 minutes can be submitted . Under the aspect of “Style & Story”, the expert jury will judge the films in particular on the basis of an imaginative, coherent story and an innovative and original style. In addition to the three main prizes, the Harald Siepermann Character Design Award and the Audience Award are presented annually.
Until 2012 there was also a country award for which contributions from young graduates and animation designers from the respective partner country who fulfilled the “Style & Story” criterion could be submitted. The partner countries were the People's Republic of China, France, Denmark, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand and the Czech Republic.

Award ceremony & supporting program
The prizes are presented every year in June at a festive gala. In 2017, as in 2016, the award ceremony will take place in the Börsen- und Commerzsaal of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce . Previous venues were the Cinemaxx Dammtor, Streit's Filmtheater am Jungfernstieg, the Abaton Cinema , Schmidts Tivoli and, in the anniversary year 2013, the Chamber of Commerce's trading hall.
The Hamburg Animation Conference has been taking place as part of the award ceremony since 2016 . The range of topics at the event ranges from local and international animation film projects, visual effects and virtual reality to project financing and legal aspects. The highlight of the wide-ranging program of the first Animation Conference in 2016 was the presentation of the new Ice Age film, Ice Age - Collision Ahead! By co-director Galen Tan Chu. From France, producer Ron Dyens presented the multi-award-winning 2D animation film Long Way North (Tout en haut du monde) and Heiko Burkardsmaier from the Stuttgart media design company Mackevision talked about the spectacular visual effects of Game of Thrones and the Shannara Chronicles . Project financing and legal aspects were the focus of another thematic block, in which the spectrum ranged from successful crowdfunding and fair remuneration conditions for artistic short films to the new amendment to copyright law. The program was rounded off by short presentations of current Hamburg animation film projects. The conference replaces a program of lectures, discussions or network events that framed the Animation Award until 2015. The Made in Hamburg - Animation Jam , a new North German trade fair and lecture event, expanded the supporting program of the Hamburg Animation Award by 2014 . This offered actors from the fields of animation, film, post-production, advertising and games a platform for presentation and networking.
