Hamburg Leuchtfeuer was founded in 1994 as a non-profit organization. Originally developed out of the AIDS context, Hamburg Leuchtfeuer is now a social institution for people regardless of the clinical picture. In addition to a hospice for seriously ill and dying people and psychosocial care especially for people with HIV and AIDS, Hamburg Leuchtfeuer opened the pilot house in Hamburg-Altona in 2007 , a house for mourning, farewell and remembrance.

Structure and activities

Hamburg Leuchtfeuer is a non-profit GmbH whose partner has been the also non-profit Leuchtfeuer Foundation since 2004 . In 1995, Hamburg Leuchtfeuer founded psychosocial care for people with HIV and AIDS and has since then been helping those affected find accommodation. In 1998 Hamburg Leuchtfeuer opened in Hamburg-St. Pauli an inpatient hospice in an outbuilding of the former Israelite hospital on Simon-von Utrecht-Strasse; initially only for those infected with HIV and AIDS. Meanwhile, the hospice also accepts people with other incurable diseases that will lead to death in the foreseeable future and offers the seriously ill and dying a protected place with individual care and personal care. In 2007 the pilot house of Hamburg Leuchtfeuer was opened; a house for mourning, parting and remembrance.

The foundation employs 45 full-time and 70 voluntary employees. The Hamburg Leuchtfeuer Board of Trustees has the task of communicating the concerns of the non-profit organization to the public. These include Wolfgang Joop , John Neumeier , Corny Littmann , Olaf Scholz , and Frank Otto .

500,000 euro donations are necessary per year in order to be able to maintain the quality of care, support and support. The donations come primarily from private individuals and companies. In addition, many people get involved in various charity activities.

In 2004 the foundation was established by Frank Otto.
