Hamdi Abu Golayyel

Hamdi Abu Golayyel ( Arabic حمدي أبوجليل, with full name Hamdi Abu Hamid Issa , * 1967 in Al-Fayyūm ) is an Egyptian author.

Life

Hamdi Abu Golayyel was born in 1967 near the Al Fayum oasis (Egypt). He is of Bedouin descent. Around 1980 he left his homeland and immigrated to Cairo to work as a building craftsman. His first book was published in 1997. Today Hamdi Abu Golayyel lives in Cairo with his wife and two daughters, Hala and Dunya. He is currently the publishing director of the Egyptian Government's Folk and Popular Culture Studies Series in the Mass / Public Culture Administration and contributes to the Emirates' daily newspaper, Jaridat al-Ittihad al-Imaratiyya .

  • He has also published a non-fictional work: al-Qahira: Shawari 'wa-hikayat (Cairo: Streets and Stories, Cairo: Maktabat al-usra, 2003).

  • Ja'izat al-Qissa (Prize for Fictional Narrative: Short Stories), Akhbar al-yawm, Cairo, (1999)
  • Ja'izat al-ibda 'al-Shnarabi (Arabic Creative Writing Award), United Arab Emirates (UAE), (2000)
  • He received the Naguib Mahfuz Literature Prize in 2008. The Naguib Mahfuz Literature Prize is one of the greatest awards in Arabic literature.
