from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hamid Rahimi (* 1983 in Kabul ) is a German - Afghan professional boxer from Hamburg . He is the current title holder of the PABA (Pan Asia Boxing Association) and GBC world champion.

Life

Hamid Rahimi fled the Afghan civil war to Hamburg with his family in 1994 and grew up there in poor conditions. Due to a war experience, he has stuttered since he was nine years old. Already at the age of 16 he began to consume cocaine en masse and became a debt collector, with which he got himself imprisoned for attempted manslaughter. A stay in prison motivated him to become a professional boxer. In 2008 he made headlines across the country for being arrested as the suspected head of an Albanian drug gang. A translation error by the judiciary resulted in a false suspicion, and Rahimi was released after six months of pre-trial detention. He was compensated 11 euros for each day of pre-trial detention.

Career

The desire for a better life and acceptance in German society paved his way to professional boxing. At the age of 16 he spent several months in a training camp in Thailand, where he began to strengthen his self-confidence with Thai and kickboxing. Since 2003 he has been trained in boxing by Oween Reece . He made his professional debut in 2006 under the boxing name The Dragon . In 2010 Rahimi was PABA Asian Champion and GBC World Champion. A professional boxing match under the motto "Fight for Peace" was held on October 30, 2012 in his hometown of Kabul after long preparation. As the first professional boxing match ever and also as the official WBO intercontinental championship match, it became a symbol of “peace through sport” in Afghanistan. With a lot of recognition and euphoria in the country itself, a high level of media interest, worldwide attention and a Tko victory in the 7th round, Rahimi and his team were able to send the request "Fight for Peace" as a sporty positive message from the crisis area Afghanistan. His autobiography was published in September 2013.
