Hanamel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hanamel was a relative of the prophet Jeremiah, from whom he bought a field a year before the conquest of Jerusalem by the Babylonians .

Mentions in the Bible

In Jeremiah  32  EU it is reported that Jeremiah was announced by God that Hanamel, the son of his uncle Schallum, would come to him and ask him to buy his field in Anatot, about 5 km northeast of Jerusalem . Jeremiah then bought the field, although this seemed absurd in view of the political situation, since the enemy forces were already at the gates of Jerusalem. The purchase should stand as a sign that God does not want to let Jerusalem go under for good.
