location

Handaberd is located in the north of the province in a wooded mountain landscape 15 km northeast of the provincial capital, near the road that connects Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia via the Sotk Pass.

history

Based on a building inscription, the time of construction of the complex can be dated to 1276. The monastery still consists of a domed church, a chapel connected to it and a bell tower a little north of the complex.
