The building of the Chamber of Commerce in Dresden was until its destruction in February 1945, the administrative building of the Chamber of Commerce for the Kreishauptmannschaft Dresden .

Prehistory and construction

On July 21, 1862, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry was constituted in Dresden. After the trade department was separated and made independent in the Chamber of Crafts in 1902, the institution operated under the name of the Chamber of Commerce .

From 1909 to 1910 a large, new administration building was erected for them at Albrechtstrasse 4 (today's Blüherstrasse), right next to the Künstlerhaus, which was completed in 1908. The result was a two-storey building designed by the architects Lossow & Kühne with a high tiled roof and two lower wing structures. The main entrance led into a spacious, vaulted foyer from which all parts of the house were directly accessible. The building had numerous balconies and platforms and up to three attic floors.

The total cost of the building was 316,000 marks , of which 71,000 marks were used for the interior fittings. With a volume of 11,215 m³, the building's unit price was around 28 marks for 1 m³ of enclosed space .

use

In the axis of the main entrance, surrounded by an anteroom and waiting room, lay the President's room; the right of the firms and the room of the General Counsel , left of the main boardroom with his gallery, which was connected by sliding doors to the small meeting room. In addition to the caretaker's apartment and the archive and library rooms, the basement or basement floor accommodated the rooms intended for heating and commercial operations.

The spacious hall under the large conference room was used to accommodate vehicles and as an exhibition room; a spacious kitchen with a sideboard, dumbwaiter and storage space was below the meeting rooms. The syndic's apartment was on the upper floor of the middle section.

destruction

Like the entire area in which the building of the Chamber of Commerce , erected between 1915 and 1917, was located, the Chamber of Commerce building was destroyed in February 1945 . The ruins were torn down in the first years after the war, although the area itself has remained fallow to this day.
