Handshake

Handschar ( Arabic خنجر Chandschar , DMG ḫanǧar , also Khanjar ) designates a traditional Arabic curved dagger / curved sword (depending on length). The blades are almost exclusively hand-forged, two flutes and the Sultanate of Oman integral part of the costume of the men; in the past an adult Omani would not go out of the house without a handshake. Today these daggers are occasionally in public and always at traditional festivals or family celebrations together with the turban and often with a stick ( Arabic عصا) carried. The almost 90 ° curved sheaths are striking, but the dagger itself is much less curved than the sheath would have you believe. The handshar often has no crossguard as hand protection.
In the coat of arms of Oman and on whose flag a Handschar is displayed.
The handjar is also known as Kanjar , Kantschar or Khanjar, Khkhanjar . The term is also incorrectly used for the single-edged jatagan .
