A Handsome Girl ( Japanese ハ ン サ ム な 彼女 , hansamu na kanojo ) is a manga series by the Japanese artist Wataru Yoshizumi . The relationship comedy, which was also implemented as a radio play and anime , comprises around 1,500 pages and is aimed primarily at young girls, so it can be assigned to the Shōjo genre.

Popular fourteen-year-old actress Mio Hagiwara is in love with Teruomi Morimoto, two years her senior. When he falls in love with her best friend Aya Sawaki, she wants to forget him and instead finds her new crush in the young director Ichyia Kumagai. However, Aya was already with him and is still, even after the breakup, in love with him and wants him back.

Publications

A Handsome Girl appeared in Japan from November 1988 to January 1992 in 35 individual chapters in the manga magazine Ribon , in which, among other things, Momoko Sakura's Chibi Maruko-chan and Yukari Ichijōs Yūkan Club were published at the same time . The Shueisha Publishing House brought this single chapter from June 1989 out in nine anthologies. In 2003 the publisher also published a new edition of the Bunkoban in five volumes.

filming

In September 1991, a 37-minute anime film based on the manga was released directly on video in the form of an original video animation in Japan . The film was produced by JCStaff and directed by Shunji Ōga .
