DeJuan Lamont Collins (born November 20, 1976 in Youngstown , Ohio ), called DC , is a retired American basketball player . He played in the position of the builder . After studying in his home country, Collins began a professional career in Germany , where he initially played four seasons. He then played four seasons for the Lithuanian club Žalgiris Kaunas in addition to stations in Greece , Italy , Russia and Spain . At the end of his active career, Collins won the EuroChallenge 2012/13 with the Russian club Krasnye Krylja Samara .

Career

Collins moved in 1997 to study at Louisiana State University , where he played for the college team Tigers in the Southeastern Conference of NCAA Division I. After a season, Collins moved again before the final year of his college career as a "senior" at Tuskegee University in Alabama , one of the historic HBCUs whose college teams are also called Tigers and play in Division II of the NCAA. He then tried as a professional over the summer training camp, including with the Indiana Pacers, to get a contract in the most highly endowed professional league NBA . After this did not work, he played in the "Chinese Pro Tour Team" in the 1999/2000 season before he was able to recommend himself for a professional contract in Europe in the summer of 2000.

For the 2. Basketball Bundesliga 2000/01 Collins was signed by the former first division club SV 1903 from Tübingen , with whom he won the championship of the group south as top scorer in the second division with 26 points per game and returned to the top German division. In the cup competition, the second division beat the then champion ALBA Berlin. In the basketball Bundesliga 2001/02 Collins was again the best points collector per game in the higher division and was voted the second best player of the season, but the promoted missed relegation after a player who was not eligible to play in the relegation round. Then Collins moved to the champions ALBA Berlin, who defended the double from the national championship and cup in the 2002/03 basketball Bundesliga . In the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague , however, they were eliminated both in the 2002/03 season and a year later in the preliminary round. In the national cup competition, the defending champion was eliminated just as prematurely before reaching the Top Four competition as in the national championship, in which the previous series champion was eliminated in the play-off semi- final series against GHP Bamberg and missed his eighth title in a row.

For the 2004/05 season, Collins moved to the Greek A1 Ethniki to cup winner Aris from Thessaloniki , who made it to the cup final again, but lost there as the defending champion against champions Panathinaikos Athens . In the national championship, Aris retired as third in the main round again in the first play-off round against AEK Athens . For the season 2005/06 Collins joined the traditional club from the Italian Varese in the Lega Basket Serie A , but the club again missed the entry into the play-offs for the national championship. At the beginning of the basketball Bundesliga in 2006/07 , Collins returned to Germany and played for Brose Baskets, which had emerged from the GHP Bamberg. In Bamberg he was suspended in mid-January 2007 for disciplinary reasons and released from his contract. Then Collins moved to the Lithuanian runner-up Žalgiris Kaunas. As a result, Collins was able to win back the national championship against long-term rivals Lietuvos rytas Vilnius with Žalgiris and defend it in 2008. In addition to the national cup competition in 2008, they also won the championship of the Baltic Basketball League in a new edition of the final against Lietuvos rytas. Collins was voted " Most Valuable Player " of the final in the national cup competition . After a poor performance in the ULEB Euroleague 2006/07 you reached the intermediate round of the 16 best teams in the ULEB Euroleague 2007/08 , but you could only get one win in six games. With almost 5 assists, Collins was the best assists in the Euroleague preliminary round in 2008.

In the 2008/09 season Collins first played for the Lokomotiv club from Rostov-on-Don in the Superleague Russia , before he was under contract with Cajasol from Seville in the ACB league for a month at the turn of the year . In the 2009/10 season he went back to Greece, where he was active for the first division side Enosi Kalathosfairisis from Kavala . The league newcomer of the previous season reached relegation again at the end of the season. Then Collins returned to Kaunas in 2010 , where he won the triple from the Baltic championship as well as the national championship and cup win twice in a row with Žalgiris. In the ULEB Euroleague, Žalgiris ended up in the second round of the 16 best teams. After he could not get a new contract in Kaunas, the now almost 36-year-old Collins initially faced a contract signing in the Lebanese Division A for Al-Riyadi from Beirut , who eventually renounced the services of Collins. At the beginning of March 2013, however, he was reactivated by the Russian first division club Krasnye Krylja from Samara , with whom he was able to win the EuroChallenge 2012/13 . In the final he scored 18 points. He was his team's top scorer in that game. Then Collins did not sign a new professional contract.
