Hannes Hartenstein

Hannes Hartenstein (* 1970 ) is a German computer scientist. He is a professor in the Faculty of Computer Science at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

Life

Hartenstein graduated from the University of Freiburg with his diploma in mathematics in 1995 and received his doctorate in 1998 from the Institute for Computer Science there. During this time he worked at the institute as a research assistant. From 1999 to 2003 he worked in the research department of the network laboratories of NEC Europe Ltd. With. Prof. Hannes Hartenstein is an expert in wireless ad-hoc networks for automatic communication between road vehicles in the flow of traffic, for example to avoid sensor-controlled collisions. In this context he was also the project manager for the BMBF-funded “Fleetnet” project. He was one of the four directors when the Steinbuch Center for Computing was founded in 2008.

He is head of the research group “Decentralized Systems and Network Services” at the Institute for Telematics of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
