Hanns-Christoph Eiden (born July 15, 1956 in Hermeskeil ) is a German lawyer and has been President of the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food since 2010 .

Life

education

From 1975 to 1981 Eiden studied law at the University of Trier and the University of Münster. In 1983 he received his doctorate from the University of Münster on the subject of "The approximation of laws under Article 100 of the EEC Treaty". In 1987 Eiden passed the 2nd state examination in law. Since his studies he has been a member of the Catholic student associations KDStV Churtrier Trier and KDStV Winfridia (Breslau) Münster .

He is married and has five children.

In 1987 Eiden became a consultant in what was then the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry . There he worked in various functions for 23 years, most recently in a leading position responsible for European and international affairs and as German spokesman in the special committee for agriculture. In 2010 he was appointed President of the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food on the proposal of Federal Minister Ilse Aigner .

During the term of office of her successor Christian Schmidt , the authority's field of activity expanded further. It is now also the project sponsor for the federal rural development program and is home to the Federal Center for Nutrition (BZfE) and the Federal Information Center for Agriculture (BZL).

At the international level, Eiden is active in the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement (SUN). From 2012 to 2014 he was one of the “Facilitators” of the Donor Network.

Honorary positions

Eiden has been Deputy Chairman of the Rheinviertel Community Foundation in Bad Godesberg since it was founded in 2005 and Chairman of the Bonn Research Alliance of Innovative Information Systems in International Quality Food Chain and Crisis Communication (Bonn.realis) since 2012.
