Hans-Georg Beyer (handball player)

Hans-Georg Beyer (born September 3, 1956 in Stalinstadt ) is a former German handball player .

With his club ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt , the backcourt player won the GDR twice in 1975 and 1982 . In 1975 he also won the European Champion Clubs' Cup. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , he scored the decisive goal in the final against the USSR in extra time and thus became Olympic champion with the GDR national team . The right- winger played a total of 46 international matches for the GDR.

In 1981 he had to end his career after his second disc operation. In 1980 he was awarded the Silver Patriotic Order of Merit . From 1998 to 2006 he coached the Ludwigsfelder HC.

Hans-Georg Beyer is the brother of the 1976 Olympic champion in shot put Udo Beyer and the discus thrower Gisela Beyer .
