Hans-Karl Siebigs

Hans-Karl Siebigs (born January 28, 1930 in Mönchengladbach ; † June 8, 2018 in Aachen ) was a German architect and Aachen cathedral master builder .

Live and act

After graduating from the Stiftisches Humanistisches Gymnasium Mönchengladbach and a subsequent apprenticeship as a bricklayer, Siebigs studied architecture at RWTH Aachen University . At the same time, he gained practical experience on various construction sites, in construction management and in architectural offices. In 1960 Siebigs was accepted into the higher civil engineering administration and two years later passed the state examination. From 1962 to 1977 he worked for the Jülich State Building Authority and for the district governments in Aachen and Cologne, and also took on various teaching positions at special technical schools. In the meantime, Siebigs did his doctorate in 1973 with the dissertation The involvement of the public authorities in urban development planning and their review in the approval process .

In 1977 Siebigs moved from civil service to local government, where he was taken on as senior government building director. A few months after the sudden death of Leo Hugot in 1982, he was appointed as his successor to the office of master builder at Aachen Cathedral . Siebigs exercised this activity until 1997 and also published several publications.
