Hans-Peter Kaeser

Hans-Peter Kaeser (* 1942 ) is a Swiss book designer and graphic artist .

life and work

After an apprenticeship as a bookseller, Hans-Peter Kaeser first worked at the library of the ETH Zurich . In 1972 he came to St. Gallen, worked in the Erker Gallery on archiving Fritz Wotruba's work . At the beginning of the 1970s Erker-Galerie and Erker-Verlag grew rapidly and Hans-Peter Kaeser was given new tasks. In 1973, Kaeser designed his first book for Erker Verlag with the support of Max Koller. As a result, he also worked as a designer on smaller printed matter for the gallery, invitation cards, brochures and books for Erker-Verlag. Kaeser acquired typographic knowledge in weekend courses at the Zurich School of Applied Arts : typography with Hans Rudolf Bosshard , writing and drawing with Werner Wälchli . He later took on a teaching position and taught script writing and script history in Zurich for 15 years. From 1986 Hans-Peter Kaeser works as a freelance graphic artist / typographer and is still responsible for the majority of the titles from Erker Verlag. In 1994 he founded the commission publishing house Sabon with the book antiquarian and bookbinder Markus Comba.

Some of Hans-Peter Kaeser's work was awarded the Most Beautiful Swiss Books Prize. The book on the Nature and Art Museum St.Gallen, 1877–1987 (St. Gallen, 1987) also received a prize in the competition for the most beautiful books from all over the world . He lives in St. Gallen .
