Hans Bürgl

Hans Bürgl (born March 8, 1907 in Vienna , † December 17, 1966 in Bogotá , Colombia) was an Austrian petroleum geologist and paleontologist .

Bürgl received his doctorate in 1933 with a thesis on the spine of the cave bear , which was created under the guidance of Othenio Abel and Kurt Ehrenberg . He worked as a petroleum geologist for various companies, including Austria, Egypt and Romania. After the Second World War he reorganized the State Geological Institute in Colombia. In 1959 he was appointed professor of geology at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogota.

In 1965 Bürgl was awarded the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .
