Hans Bernhard Kief (born April 25, 1932 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German electrical engineer and author.

Life

After studying electrical engineering, Kief worked in NC / CNC technology for 34 years, first as a developer, then as a sales manager. The then completely new area of " punched tape-controlled automation " kept him busy even after his professional activity. In collaboration with the aircraft and automotive industries, he designed several function modules for CNC machines to improve the functional reliability of machines and controls and to avoid expensive rejects. During this time there were also long stays with NC, machine tool, engine and aircraft manufacturers in the USA. He was the first German member of the American NC Society, as well as a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and the Computer and Automated Systems Association (CASA). In 1975, Kief founded the German, later European NC society and is its first honorary chairman. Since 2006 he has been the first honorary member of the CNC-arena. From 1988 to 1999 he was a guest lecturer at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University Mannheim , specializing in digital, automatic manufacturing technology / flexible manufacturing systems. In 1987 he was included in the International Who's Who in Education directory .

Kief is the author of several specialist books, especially the NC / CNC manual, first published in 1976 with the support of several NC machine manufacturers, a generally applicable and easily understandable introduction to the subject of increasingly complex controls that was missing until then. The 30th updated edition of the CNC manual was published in 2017.
