Hans Betz

Hans Betz (born July 28, 1931 ) is a former German rower . He finished eighth in fifth place at the 1952 Olympics .

Athletic career

Hans Betz from the Cologne rowing club from 1877 won the title at the German championships in 1950 and 1952 with the club eight, in 1951 the boat took second place. The championship victory in 1952 also meant for the Cologne team the nomination for the Olympic Games in Helsinki. The eighth took third place there in the second run behind the US eighth and the British. With victories in two repechage -Runden the crew still qualified for the final and finished there, the fifth and last place.

In 1953, Hans Betz took second place at the German championships with the four-man from Cologne without a helmsman , and in 1955 he won the title in this boat class. In 1955 the rowers from the four also belonged to the Cologne eighth, which again won the German championship title. The eighth also competed at the European Championships and took third place. After Hans Betz had won the championship title in the four-man with helmsman in 1953 , he tried to qualify for the Olympic Games in this boat class in 1956, but the boat only took third place in the German championships.

On December 1, 1950, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for his athletic achievements .
