Hans Cohn (chess player)

Hans Cohn Silber (born December 15, 1897 in Breslau , † November 5, 1964 in Guatemala City ) was a German chess study composer , sports journalist and chess player.

Chess composition

Cohn published more than 90 chess studies . He preferred near- game finals . Some of his chess problems are also known.

Chess player

In his youth he played tournaments in Germany and Poland. He also won numerous chess tournaments in Guatemala. But he could never win the national championship title.

Private

Hans was the son of Sigmund Cohn and Rosa born. Silver. Very little is known of his youth.

In 1929 he decided to emigrate to avoid the persecution of Jews in Germany. His voyage ended in the port of Puerto Barrios in Guatemala. He initially worked as a language teacher for German, English and Yiddish . His Polish wife, Elizabeth Pollag, found work as a cook in the British embassy. He later worked as a sports editor.

He gave up his intention to move to the United States and settled in Guatemala in 1930.

Hans Cohn published four chess books (in Spanish):
