Hans Niessen

Hans Niessen (born July 4, 1950 in Raeren ) is a former Belgian politician. From 1999 to 2004 he was Minister for Youth, Family, Monument Protection, Health and Social Affairs for the Ecolo party in the government of the German-speaking Community . From 2004 to the end of 2008 he was a member of the parliament of the German-speaking Community before becoming director of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine on January 1, 2009 . Ultimately, irreconcilable differences between Niessen and the institution meant that he was released from this position on July 1, 2011.

Hans Niessen's daughter Claudia Niessen , born in 1979, is also a member of Ecolo and has been the mayor of Eupen since December 2018 .
